VavaCars is setting out to revolutionize the secondhand automotive industry in emerging markets, by creating the world’s most trusted car transaction platform. Headquartered out of London, with initial locations in Pakistan and Turkey, we aim to provide ease, transparency, simplicity, and trust to buyers and sellers of used cars, which includes individuals, corporates, franchise- and independent- used car dealers.
Role Mission
In this position you will be developing pricing models and strategies, and implementing initiatives to optimize vehicle profitability based on variables such as demand and supply constraints, new car pricing, FX and interest movements, to name a few. We have a closed loop view on how much we need to pay for cars, what end buyers are interested in and how much it costs to prepare cars we buy ahead of sale.
As a technology first start-up you will be expected to dive deep and live and breathe the Pricing and Trading KPIs. We believe in detail and thus, use data, metrics, and logic to understand our business, drive action and deliver results.
What you will be doing:
- Conduct complex analysis including customer, competitor and market insights from internal and external sources to develop and validate recommendations, and building scenario-based models to evaluate opportunities
- Develop succinct, insightful, data driven conclusions and present to senior stakeholders making recommendations on opportunities or threats to prioritize cars and segments
- Define pricing strategies in line with customer demand and healthy stock management. Analyze car sales and customer interest to refine price positioning relative to the market
- Dive deep to understand customers motivations / deterrents to buy and sell cars to and from VavaCars, with a view on anticipating demand on both purchase and sales
- Review and run daily decisioning, and continuously improve our ruleset to ensure we correctly select cars at the right prices
- Help to identify sources of margin and process improvement that can lead to greater profit per unit
- Support pricing team by developing support tools for the pricing analysts to minimize human error and improve pricing time per car
- Run and develop pricing checks and controls to identify pricing outliers and mispricing
- Benchmark and navigate pricing levels, car acquisition and disposal strategy against competitors
- Confirm the data quality and accuracy of current pricing algorithms
- Collaborate with data science/data engineering to improve automated price setting algorithms, and build the smartest used car pricing system
Requirements
- Broad knowledge of analytics and modelling and comfort applying numerous statistical analysis to real world problems
- Experience using Python and/or SQL to interface with our various datasets and to refine automated purchase decisioning and pricing
- Able to clearly, concisely and influentially communicate complex messages to a variety of audiences and formats - leverages data and visualizes clearly
- A good business mindset and ability to understand the implication of recommendations and recognize the key drivers of profitability
- Good communication and influencing skills in English and Turkish, both orally and in writing, able to successfully liaise with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Highly motivated individual with the ability to successfully work in a dynamic, fast-paced high growth environment where agility is key
- Able to engage, influence and challenge at a senior level and successfully build relationships with stakeholders at all levels
- Comfortable working across teams to develop advanced models and systems, always with a mind on the business objectives at the core. Strong independence of mind and approach
- Commercially minded with strong financial modelling skills
- Solution-oriented with an entrepreneurial approach and ability to manage ambiguity
- Working knowledge of pricing regulations in the Turkish market
- Minimum 5+ years experience in a fast-paced digitally-oriented environment ideally with consulting, auto-tech or fin-tech
